ITEC Reps on Site During Mag 7.1 Earthquake in Honduras

Paul and Debra Isaacks were on scene in Honduras, 80 miles away from the May 7.1 mag quake hit off of the beach in La Ceiba. The quake killed 6 and injured 40 as terrified residents fled from their homes.

An arial photo shows the couple leaving Honduras on the way to the airport, crossing on the other side of a bridge that had collapsed. Once Paul was sure Debra was home safe and sound, he returned to Honduras to continue development of ITEC’s Honduran venture.

Charity Food Drive in Honduras
While paperwork is being finalized for work planned in Honduras, ITEC took the time to put together a charity food drive. We were through the generous donations of friends, family, and colleagues we were about to raise $5,000. The money benefited two rest-homes (old folks home as they are called in Honduras) in Olanchito and La Ceiba and and was used to create food baskets that were given to randomly to some of the most needy.

Hurricane Gustav Clean Up

Hurricane Gustav Clean Up
We were very fortunate to be able to be apart of the clean up of Hurricane Gustav in the state of Louisiana. The damage from the hurricane left many people without a home, or in homes with server damage.

The damage came in all forms, and we sent crews to areas throughout Louisiana armed for anything. We cut trees, cleared lots, and demoed destroyed apartments. In Houma we lived off of pepperoni pizza and water for weeks until power was restored to the town.

After the majority of the cleaning we were able to start rebuilding the homes for those who had lost them. We did interior and exterior framing repairs, interior reconstruction and put back together the roof tops that had been ravaged by the storm.

Though times were hard, our perseverance paid off, as we were rewarded contracts to some great jobs in the Louisiana, including the interior reconstruction of Highland Plantation, the roofing of Oak Brook Apartments and Hidden Point, as well as miscellaneous work for Legacy Contractors.

Andrew Wilson Elementary Update
We are currently at roughly 50% completion on the school project we started back in September of 2007. The school is divided into two phases, the remodel of the old school, and the construction of the new school.

We are excited to have recently completed the old school and have moved on to closing in the new part of the school.

Feel free to visit the photo gallery for a few images of progress.

Construction Started on Wilson Elementary
We have officially started the construction of the new division and remodel of the existing part of Andrew Wilson Elementary School, located right in New Orleans.

The neighborhood-run charter school is currently in a temporary facility, but will move into the rebuilt Wilson School building when it is completed.

The Wilson School, Keller Library & Broadmoor Community Center will serve as the anchors of the Education Corridor. The residents of Broadmoor decided to use education as the central and distinguishing concept around which they rebuild their neighborhood. The Wilson school will be made up of green LEED certified buildings.

Hurricane Gustav Clean Up Effort

Hurricane Gustav Clean Up Effort
Right on the heels of hurricane Gustav, ITEC Drywall deployed over 20 men and supplies such as tarps, brooms, chainsaws, generators, and shovels to the Baton Rouge area to begin assisting cleanup efforts in the distressed area.

"Baton Rouge received some of the worst damage from the storm." says ITEC Superintendent Cory Jeansonne, who, along with fellow Superintendent George Swanson, witnessed Gustav first hand in Baton Rouge on Monday, September 1.

In time our efforts should expand from Baton Rouge down to our home away from home in New Orleans and the surrounding area.
